Best forex brokers in Greece (2026)

The rules for forex trading in Greece

The Hellenic Capital Market Commission, the HCMC, watches over brokers in Greece. A broker needs a MiFID II licence from the HCMC, or a passport from another EU regulator. Most brokers that serve Greek traders are licensed by CySEC in Cyprus. Check the HCMC and CySEC registers and the HCMC warnings page before you deposit.

The EU leverage caps apply. That means 30:1 on major pairs, 20:1 on minor pairs, gold and major indices, 10:1 on other commodities, 5:1 on shares and 2:1 on crypto, with a 50% close-out and negative balance protection. The caps have been permanent since 1 August 2019. Bonuses are banned. On 24 February 2026 ESMA said that perpetual futures fall under the same CFD rules.

If a Greek firm fails, the Guarantee Fund covers up to €30,000. For a Cyprus firm, the Investor Compensation Fund pays 90% of a claim up to €20,000. Gains on derivatives are taxed at 15% under Law 4172/2013. Greek traders fund accounts by card, SEPA transfer, PayPal or IRIS. Crypto rules follow MiCA under Law 5193/2025 of 10 April 2025.

How We Pick These Brokers

The brokers on this page are chosen and ranked using BrokerCatalogue’s independent review framework. We look at regulation, safety of client funds, trading costs, platforms and tools, execution, and overall fit for this specific use case or region.

Some brokers may be our partners, but no broker can pay to change its score or ranking. Sponsorship can affect visibility (for example, “featured” labels), not how we rate risk or quality.

This page is for information only and is not financial or investment advice. Always do your own research.

Frequently Asked Questions

Start with regulation. Use a provider that is authorised to serve Greece under EU rules and lists clear disclosures. Check that client money stays in segregated accounts and that the firm offers negative balance protection. Review costs, platform stability, order types, and local-language support. Test a demo to judge execution and tools before you commit real funds. Read the terms, risk warnings, and complaints process. This information is general and not personal advice.

Yes. Brokers need a MiFID II licence, from the HCMC or passported from another EU regulator such as CySEC. EU caps of 30:1 on major pairs apply to retail clients.

You may face several costs. Common ones include spreads, commissions, and overnight financing on positions you hold past market close. You can also see currency conversion charges, deposit or withdrawal fees, and inactivity or account service fees. Some tools or data services carry separate charges. Review the full fee schedule, examples, and terms before you fund an account. Compare total cost across your likely trading style. Costs can change, so check updates regularly. This is not advice.

Look for client money held in segregated accounts, negative balance protection, clear risk disclosures, and a transparent complaints process. Security matters too: multi-factor login, device controls, and encryption. Ask how the firm manages outages and incidents, and how you can reach support during busy periods. Where applicable, learn about statutory investor protections and eligibility rules. Read the order execution policy to see how your trades route. These checks help you assess safety and service quality. This content is general and not advice.

If you are new, choose a platform that is simple, stable, and well documented. Look for clear charts, basic indicators, and core order types such as market, limit, and stop. Risk controls like stop-loss and alerts can help you manage positions. A synced mobile and desktop experience is useful. Education, tutorials, and a free demo help you learn features before you trade live. Avoid complex tools until you feel ready. This is general information, not personal advice.

Most regulated providers support bank transfers, cards, and some digital wallets. Funding and withdrawal times and fees vary by method and verification status. For safety, the account name should match your profile, and providers may ask for identity and address documents. Withdrawals often return to the original funding source. Check limits, currencies, and any third-party restrictions before you choose a method. Keep copies of confirmations. If something looks unclear, ask support to explain it. This is general information, not advice.
