FAQ

Take the difference between your open price and close price in pips, then multiply by the pip value and the number of lots. A long position gains when the price rises and loses when it falls; a short position is the reverse. For one standard lot (100,000 units) of EUR/USD, each pip is worth about 10 in the quote currency, so a 20 pip move is roughly 200 on that single lot.

Pip value is the cash the smallest price move puts into or takes out of your position. It depends on the pair, the lot size, and your account currency. On pairs where the US dollar is the quote currency, such as EUR/USD, a standard lot pip is close to 10. On pairs quoted in other currencies, or when your account is not in that currency, the figure is converted at the current rate, which is why the calculator asks for both the pair and your account currency.

The raw profit or loss figure is the price move alone. Your net result also depends on the spread you paid to enter, any commission on the account type, and swap fees if you held the position overnight. Check those against the price gain to see the true return, since a small winning move can be cancelled out by costs on a tight trade.
